Skip Texan is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Honolulu, originally from Houston, Texas. His artistic journey began in 1994, photographing school events and developing film in darkrooms. Over the years, his practice evolved from concert and event photography to fashion, drawn by the rich textures, detailed preparation, and storytelling embedded in design.
Today, Skip creates work that centers everyday people, identity, and cultural memory—blending photography, collage, and video art to form a visual language rooted in emotion and minimalist depth. His portraits explore vulnerability, pride, and resilience, particularly within Black and underrepresented communities.
Music is central to his creative process. Influenced by hip-hop, soul, and jazz, he approaches each project like a visual mixtape—where rhythm, mood, and movement converge to shape layered, narrative-driven pieces. Now integrating sound art and audio storytelling into his practice using Logic Pro and the Rode Procaster 2, Skip is building immersive, multi-sensory experiences that transcend the still image.
His interdisciplinary approach is grounded in healing, representation, and legacy—using art not only to document, but to restore, affirm, and reimagine Black life through a contemporary, expressive lens.
