Dynell Bonner is an artist based in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, originally from Houston, Texas. His work is grounded in photography and expands into sound and moving image when necessary to support the narrative.
Centering everyday people, identity, and cultural memory, his practice focuses on Black and underrepresented communities. Influenced by hip hop, soul, and jazz, he approaches each body of work through rhythm, sequencing, and atmosphere, often treating projects as visual compositions shaped by movement and time.
His work explores vulnerability, pride, and resilience, using photography not only to document lived experience, but to affirm presence and restore narrative agency.
